Belaz Unveils World’s Largest Mining Truck

450 Metric Tons

Zhodino, Belarus

On the 25th of September, BELAZ celebrated its 65th anniversary. The customers, dignitaries, suppliers and special guests witnessed the unveiling of three new products: a 90mt (100) electric drive truck, a remotely controlled 136mt (150) truck and the world’s largest capacity mining truck, the 450mt (500) model 75710. All three trucks were available for hands-on   inspection and in-operation viewing at the BELAZ engineering test facility.

The 75710 was designed at the request of long time BELAZ customers. Those customers operate trucks ranging in capacity from 130 to 360 metric tons. They demanded that the 75710 incorporate all of the design characteristics of their current trucks

  • Excellent performance and reliability provide by high performance engines from leading manufacturers, AC electric drive systems and efficient body hoist systems
  • Good maneuverability and superior ride comfort based on optimal integration of the truck and steering system and application of the innovative BELAZ designed pneumohydraulic suspension.
  • Operator safety and comfort with a modern cab, hydrostatic steering, and a high-performance electrodynamic retarder.
  • Long service life as a result of using advanced propulsion systems, latest technology components and assemblies and high strength materials in the frame and body.

Through a combination of unique designs and engineering innovations, the BELAZ product development experts were able to incorporate the traditional BELAZ truck characteristics into a hauler capable of carrying 450 metric tons of material and operating in the same footprint as its 320mt and 360mt predecessors. The model 75710 is designed to present a compact profile, achieve a significant performance increase and meet world safety standards.

Unique design features include:

  • 450mt payload capacity by using 8 tires
  • Excellent maneuverability by using two pivoted axles and BELAZ engineered steering kinematics. The turning radius of the 75710 is 19.8 meters. (Turning radius of a 360mt capacity truck is 17.2 meters)
  • Perfect stability without sacrificing ride comfort due to use of anti-roll bar struts in the suspension system
  • The ability to operate at or near rated capacity in high rolling resistance environments through the standard all-wheel drive configuration.
  • Superior dumping performance with power enhanced hydraulic hoist drive
  • Optimized fuel efficiency by operating only one of the two engines when the truck is not loaded.
  • High performance, reliability and safe operation are provided by a “smart” AC electric drive system with electronic differentials and antiskid system

Performance characteristics of the 450mt truck are impressive: The ability to climb protracted longitudinal grades to 14% and short slopes up to 18%. Maximum truck speed of 64km/h.  Resistance to “bogging down” or reducing payloads is very wet or unstable soil conditions.

25% Productivity Gain: As a result of its innovative design and unique features the BelAZ-75710 is estimated to provide a productivity gain of 25% versus the largest capacity trucks currently in use.

Discussions are being held with a number of customers to determine where the truck will make its debut in the dirt. Field trials are ready to begin. The sale of trucks will begin during 2014.

The launce of the BELAZ – 75710 is the latest result of the sustainable implementation of the BELAZ corporate mission:

  • Increased unit production capacity
  • Reduced cost per ton of material hauled
  • Increased automation of BELAZ mining equipment.

Belaz Announces 17 New Products

Petr Parkhomchyk used MINExpo 2012 as the setting to announce an aggressive 3-5 year product development and modernization program that will extend the product line, fill product line gaps and result in BelAZ  being recognized as the manufacturer of  the most complete line of earthmoving and mining trucks in the world.

Announcements:

  • A commitment to offer a full choice of engine and electric drive system options in the company’s mining trucks. Engines from both MTU and Cummins will be available. Electric drive system options include AC/AC offerings from Siemens, GE and Russian manufacturers, well as well as traditional AC/DC systems for maximum value configurations. Belaz designed and manufactured wheel motor gears are standard on all configurations.
  • A BelAZ designed and manufactured proprietary hydro-mechanical transmission for, 60mt and 90mt trucks. This transmission is the latest in a series of  initiatives to integrate design, manufacture and quality control of components within the BelAZ organization
  • Commencement of an engineering design program to offer a configuration for trolley operation on 220mt and 240mt truck models. Production availability of the trolley option is targeted for 2015.
  • The commencement of testing of a system for control of trucks from a centralized command center. The first system is operational and undergoing test and refinement at the BelAZ Research andDevelopmentCenterat BelAZ headquarters. Commercial availability is expected in 2013.
  • Development of a full line of articulated construction/quarry trucks. The trucks are designed to compete around the world with articulated trucks.  The 6×6 product configuration will be available in capacities of 27mt, 36mt and 50-52mt. All models will be powered by engines supplied by world leading manufacturers.  All trucks will be equipped with transmissions designed by BelAZ and Allison. Production is planned to start in 2013.
  • Development of a full line of underground trucks and LHD’s. Trucks will be offered at ratings of 22, 40, 50 and 60 metric tons. LHDs will be rated at 9 and 16 tons. Production of the models will start in 2013 with the full line available by the end of 2015.
  • 90 metric ton electric drive truck program. BelAZ will become the only manufacturer in the world to produce an electric drive truck with 90 metric ton hauling capacity. The new model will offer quarry operators the flexibility to choose hydro-mechanical or electric drive depending on the haul profiles in their operation. Both versions of the 90mt models will be available with MTU or Cummins engines at 1050 horsepower. The electric drive will use a Russian system developed in conjunction with BelAZ. The mechanical version will utilize the BelAZ hydro-mechanical transmission announced today.
  • Gaps in the mining truck portfolio will be filled with the release in 2014 of truck rated at 170 – 190 (2000hp) and 260-290 (2700hp) metric tons. Both series will be available with MTU or Cummins engines and the complete array of electric drive systems.
  • 450 metric ton truck development program. BelAZ officially confirmed the existence of their program to design and bring to market the largest series production mine truck in the world. The 450mt capacity will continue the trend for ever increasing hauling capacity and the resulting reduction in hauling cost per ton. The truck will have 4600 horsepower and matched to Siemens drive systems.

51,900 People Saw Belaz 400-Ton Truck

MINExpo 2012 presented the perfect opportunity to show the Belaz 400-ton electric drive mine truck to the world and to introduce Belaz Trucks Americas as the exclusive distributor for Belaz trucks in North America. The high visibility location of the Belaz display meant that every one of the 51,900 visitors to MINExpo saw the display as they arrived by shuttle bus, taxi, monorail or automobile. The several thousand who visited the booth were impressed to learn of the scope of the product line (electric drive trucks 136-400 tons, quarry and earth moving trucks 35-100 tons, underground and specialized equipment) the world wide use of the products (70 countries) and the technical sophistication of the components offered.

Semyon Brayman, President of Belaz Trucks Americas said “We have worked very hard to develop a network of established, experienced, customer focused parts and service dealers in the major mining sectors of North America. That is done. The market has now been introduced to the scope of our product line and to the technology and quality built into the products. We are accelerating the effort to bring our value message to the North American customers and to expand the business model to Latin America.”

In addition to the product display, during a MINExpo press conference, Belaz announced 17 new products, including a 495-ton truck, new technology releases and a capacity expansion. (click to see press release). Said Petr Parkhomchyk, General Director of Belarusian Autoworks BelAZ, “Over the next 3-5 years, BelAZ will be recognized as the manufacturer of the most complete line of earthmoving equipment and mining trucks in the world. Our line is already strong, but the actions we are announcing today will fill product line gaps and provide customers with the ability to choose product capacity and power train components to precisely tailor BelAZ equipment to their operational and budgetary requirements.”
